Our home

Here is a definition of Africa for you: four people sit there and watch the washing machine wash.
About a dollar's worth of sweet potatoes -- imagine how much this would cost at home, even during the Thanksgiving sales!  You can tell I'm impressed.
Our apartment building.  Ours is the bottom one, down the steps to the left of the picture.  All the other apartments are bigger.
Our bedroom.  (Sorry, these came out in a funny order.)  Four-poster beds seem to be very popular here, which as you can see is so they can hold the mosquito netting.
Our kitchen/dining/living room, taken from standing in the front doorway.  The kitchen side is against the wallto the right of the picture.  The door goes out onto the patio, and then you can take the steps up to the lawn.
Installing the washing machine.  This was about three days of drama.  One of these workmen is recently out of bed, but still thinks he is indispensible to the project!

  1. Hmmmm, I doubt the definition of Africa includes a washing machine, based on my experience.

    1. Ha ha, you're quite right! First of all, the impression I have is that this part of Africa is much more developed than where you were, especially since we're living in the city. But the part I was really thinking of, that I think is more universal, is all the people all sitting there waiting for something, or in this case taking care of something that is really able to do its job all on its own.
